Cambers Sands Railway
This garden railway is a bit different, yet it’s the same. All garden railways are “Garden Railways” whether they are powered by electric, battery or live steam, but this railway is powered mainly by live steam.
Bob Perrin who is a member of both the G Scale Society and the 16mm Garden Railway Society, has spent the last three years building his railway, which is a raised platform roughly three feet from ground which saves all the bending, and as the years go by we all suffer from, or at least some of us do...! When Bob first built his railway getting in to the middle meant having to either hurdle over the top or limbo dance underneath, but thankfully Bob has now added a footbridge to ease access, I think this came after somebody tried to limbo underneath and ended up rolling in the flowers…!
The line which is well laid out, goes into the shed over a six arch viaduct, and along the back of the shed is a double passing loop, and then out the other side over a three span bridge.
As said before, this is a live steam railway and Bob runs around eight live steamers with the usual carriages, although the carriages tend to be left in the sidings which are near the house.
You can see from the pictures that building this railway has been no mean feat and the amount of effort that has already been put in, will ensure this will be here for a long time to come.
Bob has plans to increase the estate around the railway with stations and general buildings to add to the landscape. This railway just goes to prove that both “G” Scalers and 16mm can join together and spend a very pleasant afternoon running trains and enjoying yet another great garden layout.
